Schedule Not Activating
Your schedule exists but content is not changing as expected? Here is how to troubleshoot schedule issues.
Check the Basics
1. Is the schedule active? — Open the schedule and verify the toggle is ON 2. Is the current time within a rule? — Check that a rule covers the current time and day 3. Are targets assigned? — Verify the schedule is assigned to the correct devices/stores 4. Is the timezone correct? — Schedule times use your organization timezone
Timezone Issues
The most common cause of schedule issues:
- Schedules use the timezone set in Settings > Organization
- If your organization timezone does not match the device's local time, schedules will appear to activate at the wrong time
- Solution: Verify and update the organization timezone
After changing the organization timezone, force a refresh on all devices. They need to re-evaluate schedule rules with the updated timezone.
Priority Conflicts
If the wrong content is showing:
1. Check if another schedule with a higher priority is active 2. Open the device detail page and look at Active Schedule 3. The active rule shows which schedule won the priority evaluation 4. Adjust priorities if needed (higher number = higher priority)
Day-of-Week Issues
- Verify the correct days are selected for the rule
- Check if you are using RRULE-based recurrence — the days in the RRULE must match
- Some schedules use both
daysandrrulefields — both are evaluated
Date Range Issues
If the rule has a date range:
- Check that today falls within the start and end dates
- Expired date ranges will not activate
- Future start dates will not activate until that date
Testing Schedules
1. Open the schedule 2. Click Preview Timeline 3. Navigate to the time you are testing 4. Verify the correct playlist is shown as active
Forced Activation Test
1. Create a temporary schedule with priority 100 2. Set it to cover the current time 3. Target the device 4. If this works, your schedule rules or priority are the issue 5. Delete the temporary schedule after testing
After making changes to schedule rules, the device picks up updates on its next heartbeat (within 60 seconds). If changes do not appear after 2 minutes, send a manual REFRESH command.
