OTA Updates

GoVista supports Over-The-Air (OTA) updates to keep your player apps current without visiting each device.

How OTA Works

1. A new player version is released and uploaded to the GoVista server 2. You can trigger an update check from the dashboard 3. Devices download and install the update automatically 4. The player restarts with the new version

Triggering Updates

Single device: 1. Select the device in the Devices page 2. Click Actions > Update Check 3. The device checks for and installs any available update

Bulk update: 1. Select multiple devices 2. Click Bulk Actions > Update Check 3. All selected devices begin the update process

Update Process

When a device receives an update command:

1. Downloads the new APK/package in the background 2. Content continues playing during download 3. Installs the update (brief interruption) 4. Restarts the player app 5. Reports the new version in the next heartbeat

Schedule OTA updates during off-hours to minimize content interruption. A typical update takes 2-5 minutes from download to restart.

Version Management

The Devices page shows the current player version for each device. You can:

  • Sort by version to identify outdated devices
  • Filter to see devices on a specific version
  • View the update history in the device detail panel

Staged Rollouts

For large deployments, update in stages:

1. Update one test device first 2. Verify content plays correctly 3. Update a small group of devices 4. If everything works, update the rest

Do not power off a device during an update. If a device loses power during installation, it may need manual recovery. Always ensure stable power and network during OTA updates.
