Publishing Content

Publishing pushes your content from the dashboard to your screens. GoVista offers multiple ways to get content onto your displays.

Direct Publish

The quickest way to show content on a screen:

1. Open the content item or playlist you want to publish 2. Click Deploy or Publish 3. Select the target devices, stores, or groups 4. Click Publish Now

Content is pushed to devices immediately via WebSocket. Devices download the assets and begin playback.

Publishing via Playlists

For most use cases, you will publish through playlists:

1. Create a playlist with your content items 2. Assign the playlist to a schedule or deploy it directly 3. The playlist manifest is sent to all targeted devices

Publishing via Schedules

For time-based content delivery:

1. Create a schedule with time rules 2. Assign playlists to each time slot 3. Set the target devices or stores 4. Activate the schedule

Devices automatically switch content based on the schedule rules.

How Publishing Works

When you publish:

1. GoVista generates a manifest — a versioned JSON document listing all content and rules 2. The manifest version is incremented 3. Devices detect the new version via their heartbeat (every 60 seconds) 4. Devices download any new assets they do not already have 5. Playback begins with the updated content

Devices cache downloaded content locally. If a device goes offline after syncing, it continues playing the last synced content. No internet required for playback once synced.

Publish Targets

You can publish to:

  • Individual devices — Single screen targeting
  • Stores — All devices in a location
  • Zones — Specific areas within a store
  • Tags — All devices with a particular tag
  • Regions/Cities — Geographic targeting
  • Brand-wide — All devices in your organization

Publishing to a large number of devices may take a few minutes as each device downloads content independently. Monitor the sync progress on the Devices page.
