Playlist Modes
Playlist Modes
GoVista offers three playback modes that determine how content items cycle through your playlist.
Sequential Mode
Content plays in the exact order shown in the playlist:
1. Item 1 plays for its set duration 2. Item 2 plays next 3. Continues through all items 4. Loops back to Item 1
Best for:
- Menu boards where order matters
- Step-by-step information displays
- Curated content sequences
Shuffle Mode
Content plays in random order:
- Items are shuffled each cycle
- No item repeats until all items have played
- Each cycle presents a different order
Best for:
- Promotional displays where variety matters
- Waiting room entertainment
- Content that does not need a specific sequence
Weighted Mode
Each item is assigned a weight (percentage) that determines how often it plays:
- Higher weight = more frequent playback
- Weights should total 100%
- The system distributes playback proportionally
Example:
- Featured promotion: 50% weight (plays half the time)
- Brand video: 30% weight
- Social feed: 20% weight
Best for:
- Advertising networks where some content gets more airtime
- Prioritizing paid content over filler content
- Balancing brand messaging with promotions
Start with Sequential mode for most use cases. Switch to Weighted when you have a mix of high-priority and low-priority content that needs proportional airtime.
Changing Modes
1. Open the playlist 2. Click Settings or the mode selector 3. Choose the desired mode 4. If switching to Weighted, set the weight for each item 5. Save and re-deploy
Mode Comparison
| Feature | Sequential | Shuffle | Weighted | |---------|-----------|---------|----------| | Order | Fixed | Random | Priority-based | | Predictable | Yes | No | Partially | | Equal airtime | Yes | Yes | No | | Best for | Menus | Variety | Ad networks |
When using Weighted mode, make sure weights add up to 100%. If they do not, the system normalizes them automatically, which may not match your expectations.
