Image Compositions
Compositions allow you to create multi-zone layouts that display different content in different areas of the screen simultaneously.
What is a Composition?
A composition divides the screen into zones, each with its own content. For example:
- Main area showing a promotional video
- Bottom ticker with scrolling text
- Side panel with weather or time
- Corner logo overlay
Creating a Composition
1. Go to Content > Create New > Composition 2. Choose a base resolution (e.g., 1920x1080) 3. Define zones by dragging on the canvas or entering exact dimensions 4. Each zone can contain: images, videos, playlists, text, clocks, or web content
Zone Types
- Media Zone — Plays images or videos from a playlist
- Text Zone — Displays static or scrolling text
- Clock Zone — Shows current time and date
- Web Zone — Embeds a web page or widget
- RSS Zone — Displays RSS feed headlines
Layout Presets
Common preset layouts:
- L-Bar — Main content with bottom and side bars
- Split Screen — Two equal halves (horizontal or vertical)
- Picture-in-Picture — Full-screen content with a small overlay
- Triple Split — Three equal columns
- Grid — 2x2 or 3x3 equal zones
Keep compositions simple. Too many zones competing for attention can overwhelm viewers. Aim for 2-4 zones maximum for most use cases.
Zone Scheduling
Each zone within a composition can have its own playlist or content. This means you can:
- Update one zone without affecting others
- Assign different schedules to different zones
- Mix static and dynamic content on the same screen
Best Practices
- Use high-contrast colors between zones
- Ensure text is large enough to read at the expected viewing distance
- Keep video zones large enough for comfortable viewing
- Test on the actual display before deploying widely
Video playback in multiple zones simultaneously requires adequate device processing power. Budget Android boxes may struggle with more than one video zone. Test on your target hardware.
