GoVista vs Xibo

Xibo is the leading open-source self-hosted digital signage CMS. GoVista is a fully managed cloud service. The trade-off is operational overhead vs flexibility — here is how to evaluate.

Why GoVista

  • Fully managed cloud — no servers to provision, patch, or back up
  • Commercial features (SSO/SAML, video wall sync, OTA player updates) included rather than plugin-stacked
  • Same-day rollout — pair a screen in 60 seconds
  • Predictable subscription cost without surprise infrastructure bills
  • Direct Novastar LED controller integration

Frequently asked

Is GoVista compatible with Xibo content?

GoVista uses standard formats (MP4 H.264, JPEG, PNG, HTML5) so any media you have in Xibo can be uploaded directly to GoVista. Xibo layouts export as XLF (Xibo Layout File) which is not directly importable, but the visual editor in GoVista lets you recreate layouts quickly — a typical migration of 50-100 layouts takes a day or two.

Can I run GoVista on-premise?

GoVista is currently cloud-only. For customers with strict on-premise requirements, Xibo or another self-hosted platform may fit better. Talk to us if you have a specific data residency need — EU and Türkiye-based hosting is available for enterprise customers.

What is the operational cost of self-hosting Xibo?

Xibo CMS itself is free, but self-hosting requires a database server, a web server, regular security patching, backups + disaster recovery, monitoring, and someone's time to maintain it all. Once you total the infrastructure spend and the operational time, a managed cloud service is often comparable or cheaper.

Does GoVista support Linux players like Xibo does?

Yes. The GoVista web player runs on any modern browser, including Chromium on Linux distributions in kiosk mode. We also support Tizen, WebOS, Android TV, and Windows natively.
